UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAM IN MATHEMATICS

Program on Mathematics and Statistics

Mathematics and statistics have developed together for many years with probability theory as a central thread. In this program of joint major in the two disciplines, the aim is to train students to work in areas common to both mathematics and statistics, with a balance between theory and application, and to provide a solid grounding in the fundamentals of both. It will give a practical edge to those students who would otherwise only study mathematics, and it will give a theoretical edge to those students who would otherwise only study statistics. Each subject contributes to the development of the other, and any student who pursues both will come away better equipped to work in science, industry and commerce.
