Australian Small Parrots

• Cockatiels, Leptolophus hollandicus

  
  also known as Weiro and Quarrion. This pair, ``Patsy'' and ``Tara'' are very friendly and talkative.

• Hooded Parrots, genus Psephotus or Psephotellus

  
  also called the Anthill Parrot since it nests in abondoned termite mounds, in the north of Australia.

  This is one species where the females are coloured more strikingly than the males. These specimens have been bred to enhance the rose-colouring; in particular, the male is ``split for blue''.

  also called Grass Parrot; common throughout South-East Australia.

  The female red-rump does not have the bright red rump of its male counterpart. Currently this one is raising two chicks inside the nesting-box.

  also known as Shell Parrot, Zebra Parakeet, Warbling Grass Parrot, Undulated Parrot.

• ``Rudolph'' the red-rumped grass parrot.
  Rudolph is the largest bird in the aviary -- bigger than a large budgie, and slightly bigger than the quarrions, but smaller than the rosellas and lorikeets in the wild. He has a wonderful time it when it rains.
